Mac had been tailing Alexander Snow all over Boston. It was a cold and snowy day. The kind that made him wish he was still curled up in front of the fire with the crazy woman who had stolen his heart. All the more reason to have bailed when he did. Focusing on ruining Alexander Snow was what he did best.

The man had met with his attorneys and then a few clients. He was the president of Snow Enterprises, a large import/export company that shipped and received goods out of Boston Harbor. Mac had been watching them for years, waiting for him to slip up. When a tip had come in from an informant, Mac had taken great pleasure in making the drug bust and tainting his company. The fact that Snow had signed off on the shipment only sweetened the pot. And the reality that he was an asshole and a deadbeat dad was enough to make Mac want to see him get life without parole. It would never happen, but one could dream.

Or in Mac’s case obsess for the better part of his life.

Snow was back at his office, and Mac had been sitting outside for the past hour, watching and waiting. He didn’t believe for a minute that the signature was forged or that Snow hadn’t known about the cocaine. He had to slip up sometime, and when that happened, Mac would be ready. The only problem with waiting was it gave a man time to think. And think he did. About the dynamic woman who had driven him crazy, grabbing hold of his heart and refusing to abandon his thoughts.

He hadn’t wanted to leave her this morning, but he’d gotten a tip from one of his informants that Snow was on the move. He didn’t have the heart to wake her when he left, and a part of him could admit he was afraid to face her after what they had shared. Making love to her had been the best goddamned thing he’d ever experienced, and the stupidest most asinine thing he’d done to date. He knew she’d never be happy with a guy like him.

The problem was she’d brought him to heaven and ruined him for anyone else.

Nope, leaving might not have been the right thing to do, but it sure as hell was the smartest. He was in over his head when it came to her, and he was man enough to admit it. As long as he remained focused on his goal of making his old man pay, he would be fine. He would be satisfied. He would finally be fulfilled. He frowned. Now that he was this close, why didn’t he feel more of a sense of elation?

A man left the building and got in Alexander’s car, the driver driving off. Mac couldn’t be sure who it was so he started his own car and was just about to leave. A movement through the window of the office caught his attention.
